Why is my Nikon D300 18-200 lense not working?

When i capture and image with my 18-200 lense the picture is all black, i want to know how to fix it because it bugging me. i just hope it is not broken because it was a lot of money!
Is the lense broken or the actual camera? It might be the camera mainboard. Try using another lense as well
Is this your first ever SLR or DSLR?
Unless you threw the camera and lens across the room, there is nothing wrong with the camera and lens.
